Evaluating Women’s Empowerment in Rural Cameroon through the Abbreviated – Women’s Empowerment in Agriculture Index

Amartya Sen a Nobel laureate stressed the fact that empowering women and girls with more choices freedom is crucial to achieving better future for all. This study evaluates level of women’s empowerment in agriculture by assessing gaps between male female decision makers; comparing across household types. Empowerment assessed through Five Domains (5DE) Abbreviated Women’s Agriculture Index (A-WEAI). Using data collected from 600 rural households West region Cameroon, outcomes 5DE show men exist all domains empowerment. The are severe resource income domains. Also, group membership, excessive workload access about credit contribute most disempowerment both women. shows dual headed (DHHs) achieve adequacy terms input productive decisions, credit, membership as compared other production, depend on type. results highlight need creation governmental non-governmental organisations will promote aspects life.
